WHO THE PROGRAM ADDRESSES
The open call is addressed to music historians interested in examining the philosophical grounds and consequences of their work. Relevant practices may be archival, biographical, analytical, social, cultural, intellectual, oral-historical, ethnographic, media-historical, performance-based, digital, curatorial, public-facing, or situated across multiple methods and formats. This range is indicative rather than exhaustive.
Projects may begin from a specific archive, musical work, person, institution, community, event, technology, historiographical problem, neglected history, contested narrative, or broader research trajectory. Applicants may work within universities, archives, libraries, museums, cultural institutions, independent research, artistic practice, or combinations of these contexts. Participants should be prepared to present work in progress, engage closely with the work of others, revise their positions in response to discussion, and contribute actively to a collective research environment.
The programme does not require participants to arrive with a complete philosophy of music history. Its purpose is to establish the conditions under which philosophical positions can be articulated, tested, differentiated, and developed through historical practice. Intellectual curiosity, evidentiary responsibility, critical openness, and a commitment to sustained exchange are therefore as important as the current state or institutional location of any individual project.
